Notes:
In Philippsburg he was listed as “sub præsidio”, under protection. He could not sign his own name. At the death of his wife in Wiesental in 1791 he is listed as “olim accola in Philipsburg nunc vero vagi” (formerly resident in Philippsburg, now truly homeless). By 1811 his son Johannes had lost contact with him. In 1812, his daughter Maria Salome’s marriage record indicates that he had been absent for more than 20 years and his present residence was unknown.
